  • Fundraising isn’t just about raising money – it’s about teambuilding, inviting others in and yes, not going it alone.

Traditional support raising training encourages you to create a list of names and one-by-one invite them in. Our FREEDOM framework encourages you to do the opposite. Don’t create a list of donor prospect names, create a list of prospective advisory team members.

Releasing yourself of the pressure of doing your fundraising alone is one aspect of this new way of thinking, but here are five MORE reasons you should consider as you build your advisory team.

    1. The advisory team frees you from overwhelm.
    2. The advisory team will save you time.
    3. The advisory team will make it more fun.
    4. You will never run out of contacts.
    5. You’ll be more confident when you make the ask.

    • What it means to build a campfire around what you share
    • Why following a cookie cutter approach when raising support is not the answer (despite what you've been taught)

Note: This episode was recorded just a few days before Mary's daughter was born so it's a bit behind the big news!

But you'll also hear about some of the ways Mike and Mary have been navigating stressful seasons, which we hope will bless you.

    Resources:

  • Eric Peoples is the lead pastor of Legacy Church in Farmington, CT. Eric has done significant work in missions throughout South and Central America, as well as Europe. He ministers frequently overseas and pioneered various mission initiatives through the context of a local church, taking teams of members on short-term trips to revitalize communities and strengthen churches.

In this interview, Eric shares a few key insights from the perspective of a lead pastor, and how missionaries and campus ministry leaders can connect with local churches. He also shares his experiences in fundraising for various missions and community initiatives.
  • Kelly Baader lives in Switzerland and serves as a mentor to Christian marketplace leaders across the world.

Here are some of the things Kelly touches on:

    • The 5 invisible areas that affect your life and business
    • Switching the discussion from how much you want to make to how much you want to give
    • Inviting Jesus to your business meetings
    • How giving and receiving are emotional things and we have different reasons for giving to different causes
    • Why you don’t need everybody to support your cause and a small group that aligns with your goal is ideal

  • Kent Sanders is a former college professor turned ghostwriter and writing coach. Kent believes nothing is more powerful than a written story and that books are one of the few forms of magic we have left.

In this episode we talk about:

    • Why it’s important to help others with writing and storytelling
    • Why storytelling is vital and how it’s the way God communicates with us
    • How to get started writing on a blank page
    • Why you shouldn’t be apologetic in your ask and be bold instead
    • What works vs. what doesn’t work while fundraising

Kent has a lot of great information to share but one thing he stresses is joining a community. Find people who want to help you accomplish your goal and regularly meet with them. Whether it’s in person or in an online group, a community will help you not feel alone in your journey.

    Resources:

  • Chris Barlow is the customer happiness director for Beeline Marketing and an all-around master of digital marketing.

After working in sales, Chris moved on to volunteering for a nonprofit. Everyone in mission work has a skill that they can serve other people with. Chris has found success by finding out what donors need and providing it to them before asking for anything from them.

    In this episode you’ll hear:

    • How you can meet donors where they are at and find out how you can help them first
    • How to get more people drawn into the work you do by giving people a taste of your ministry with free lead magnets
    • Recommendations on how to attract new supporters through research and social media
    • Why it's important to do market research on what your donors need help with

    Resources:

  • Daniel Hammond is a former interrogator for the military and to say his life has been turned around would be an understatement!

Today, Daniel runs a significant nursing school ministry in Honduras. I recently met Daniel in Nashville at Mike Kim's mastermind events and he said, “Mary Valloni, we’re going to change the world together!”

We hit it off as immediate friends, and while he's been part of Fully Funded Academy for awhile, this was the first time we got to meet.

    In this episode you’ll hear:

    • What it was like for Daniel to be a lukewarm Christian before God led Daniel into ministry work
    • How he identified what his unique ability is and how he could use it in order to influence the outcomes he wanted
    • Why you should get to know people on a personal level
    • Why you should let people know exactly what it is that you need –– over the next 10 years (what?)

Daniel also brings up the question, "How committed are you to faith over fear?"

When you are in ministry work, you have to move forward with faith regardless of if you feel fearful or nervous.

This episode is going to supercharge your faith!

  • One of things Mike Kim talks about in his new book, You Are the Brand, are three questions you need to ask yourself to gain INSTANT clarity:

    1. What pisses you off?
    2. What breaks your heart?
    3. What is the big problem you are trying to solve?

You can find Mike's book on Amazon here.

In this episode, Mary walks you through the questions to help you connect with your "why".

  • Mary takes a question from a listener named Michael (last name withheld) regarding how transparent you should be about how much support you live on.

This can be a touchy issue for anyone raising or living off support, so if you're struggling in this area be sure to tune in.

  • Poverty is a mindset! It creates that sense of scarcity, which you then become accustomed to.

In this episode, Mary Valloni walks you through seven ways to overcome the scarcity mindset so that you stop hinging your ministry and life on simply protecting the scarce resources that you have.

Never surrender your hopes and dreams to the fateful limitations others (or you!) have placed on your life!

  • In life, we have three circles of relationships: our close friends, our colleagues, and our acquaintances.

In this episode, Mary talks with fundraising coach, mentor, and former Vice President of Development at North Central University, Roger Lane.

Roger has worked on over 180 fundraising projects and raised over $400 million dollars... and you can be sure he understands the power of relationships. After all, people will often give to a person before they give to a project.

In this episode, Roger shares how his background in coaching and sales shaped his pastoral ministry and fundraising work.

Many of us get 60%, 70%, or 80% funded and then freeze! What gives?

The answer is NOT doing this alone. It's so important to lock arms with others and enlist others to help us raise support.

In this episode, Mary will walk you through the Buyer’s Journey and the Donor’s Journey, and how building an advisory team creates every donor relationship you will ever need.

  • In today's episode, Mike and Mary continue their conversation on Mike's upcoming book, You Are the Brand, and how to effectively communicate online.

    In this episode you'll hear:

    • Questions to ask yourself before you hit publish on anything
    • The difference between being authentic versus transparent
    • How to tell stories you can "build a campfire around"
